Disappointments of our Society
We have completely lost touch with how to enjoy our lives without posting about them on social media. We have become so self centered to think that people actually care about what we’re doing 24/7...I am guilty of this as well.
Getting that brand new car and rather than sitting in it and taking it for a joy ride, our first instinct is to post about it on social media. Making sure that everyone knows how much money we have...or our parents have.
Gloating about the flowers our boyfriend surprised us with, tricking everyone into thinking our relationships are perfect.
Sneaking our Louis Vuitton bag into the picture, so people know we have good taste.
The classic treadmill boomerang so nobody forgets that we work out and maintain a healthy lifestyle...but never showing our late night bad food cravings.
Posting a selfie when we put our makeup on, so we can remind others that we are capable of looking beautiful, just like that other girl we so badly envy.
Videotaping an entire concert and worrying more about how much battery our phone has before our favorite song comes on...instead of enjoying what’s right in front of us.
I have challegened myself to find something productive to do with my morning when I first wake up. Instead of rolling over and picking up my phone. What a refreshing way to start the day...NOT. I have begun to not care anymore about what people post. If you look pretty, yay, I’m happy for you. If you got a brand new car, yay, that is super exciting. But in no way do these things make my day any better. In no way do these things make your day any better either. Congrats for your accomplishments but I know that beneath those posts is struggle and pain and stress. Things we never show.
I am equally as guilty for these things, but I am working towards enjoying life, rather than posting it.
I will post if it makes me feel good, when I want to share my adventures and my progress.
It’s time to do some reflecting and social media cleansing.
All the posts in the world won’t change the problems in your life. They may temporarily mask them, but they will always be there.
Let’s be selfless on social media.
